05-27-16 @North Heartland: SHINE Through Graciousness begins

Good morning, dear (soaked) friends of North Heartland!
As I’m sure you know, last Sunday we completed the first of five series on what it means to SHINE for Jesus like lights in the darkness. Shine through Generosity was a pretty challenging series because it was so counter-cultural. It also has a project associated with it, which I emailed/mailed you about earlier this week. If you missed any of the series, you can click here for all three messages.
Our next series, which begins this Sunday, is called Shine Through Graciousness. It’s based on a simple but distressing observation and a simple but hopeful question: we live in an increasingly mean-spirited world; what if Christians treated people differently than everyone else? What if we treated the people we know and the people we don’t know the way God treats us – with grace? I suspect we would not only have more peace in our lives personally, we’d also be like lights shining in the darkness pointing the way to our Savior, Jesus!
Here’s the plan for the series:
Sunday You Gotta Have It to Give It
The secret to becoming a grace-giving person.
06-05 Stuck in the Middle
Why graciousness is not the same as tolerance. (It’s a lot harder).
06-12 When Values Clash
Walking hand-in-hand when you don’t see eye to eye.
06-19 When Sin Gets Personal
Dealing with people who disappoint you.
06-26 Changing Your Perspective
What gracious people see that no one else does.
I hope you’ll be here for all five services but, if you can’t make it, you can always watch via our livestream or catch up later in the media section of our app or website.
A couple of other notes before I let you go …
· Don’t forget we will be offering a wide variety of classes this summer: Bible Studies, spiritual discipline classes, parenting, marriage, caring for aging adults, women’s self defense and more. More info (and sign up) is available via the “Discover” tab on our app and website and also at the Summer Class table on Sunday morning. Classes start soon so don’t delay!
· A huge kudos to all the guys and gals involved for the tremendous amount and quality of work that has been done in the past several months on the Student Ministry wing. The main entry area is being transformed into an incredibly functional and beautiful welcome space. The small group rooms are finally (after 15 years!) losing the bathroom/showers that remained from the hospital days. And much of the carpet has been pulled up to be replaced soon.
There’s still a lot left to do but all the work is finally beginning to show. If you have a middle or high school student in our student ministry (or not) stop back there some time and see what’s happening!
Ok, that’s all for now. I hope you fully enjoy your Memorial Day weekend … and that it stops raining. 🙂 Be sure to come to church Sunday morning or, if you are out of town, either watch us online at 9:00 and 10:30 or attend a church wherever you are.
