01-21-18 @North Heartland: Better weather! This is Jesus! Communion! And more!

Looks like we might finally get a break from the wintry weather of the past few weeks! I'm very happy about that especially since I ended up spending the night at the building last Saturday evening. Once the snow started falling around 1:30am, I jumped in my car and drove up so that I would be there for sure at 9:30 and 11:00.

I'm very much looking forward to spending this Saturday night in my home. 😃

I'm also looking forward to a fuller auditorium. I know that the Spirit is present even if there are only three of us but it does feel a little hollow in that big room!

Anyway, this Sunday we'll take the next step in our series This Is Jesus: Dawn of a New Day. I'm excited about this message, Failure to Launch, because it represents something of a turning point in the series.  We've spent a lot of time in previous weeks laying the necessary groundwork to understand who Jesus of Nazareth was and what He was trying to accomplish, and this week we're going to see how that applies to us in a very personal way. (Hint: Jesus didn't do what the people of His day expected, which turns out to be a very good thing for people like you and me.) In addition to some great music and video, we'll also be celebrating communion!

Two other important things to note:

If you've ever wondered how your job connects to your faith, you'll want to be sure to attend the national one-day Work as Worship retreat which happens Friday February 23rd from 7:30am-2:30 pm. Churches all over the country (including NHCC) will be hosting this livestream event featuring some of the greatest business and spiritual leaders of our day (Patrick Lencioni, Matt Chandler and more). If you want to know more, click here for a brief video. To sign up, click here. Cost is just $25 for a great day of learning and awesome NHCC hospitality!

Finally, we're just two weeks away from the Superbowl which means it's time for the return of Football Sunday - a service which features (via video) the testimonies of several Christ-following athletes who will be playing in the game that day. It will be a fun, upbeat service - a great time to invite family and friends who are not involved in a church. Click here to see a short informational video by CBS Sports Anchor, James Brown (who is also a believer).

Ok, that's all for now. See you Sunday!

Rick
