12-03 @North Heartland: "This Is Jesus" Outreach Season begins!

Ok dear family and friends of NHCC ... it's time to make the light of Jesus shine a little brighter in our corner of the world!

For the past several months, we've been talking about an impending major shift in our outreach strategy. ("Outreach" is what we all do together to invite non-church attenders in our community - family, friends and co-workers - to come to NHCC and see what Christ and Christianity is all about for themselves). That shift began earlier this week when we sent out 19,000 mailers to folks who live near our building inviting them to our new series, This is Jesus (Part 1): Origins which begins THIS SUNDAY.  (Those same people next week will be receiving an invitation to our incredible Celebration of Christmas event which happens Dec 19, 20 and 21).

In previous years we've held off until February for this kind of outreach effort (we've linked it with the movie series - which we're moving to sometime next summer) but last year we realized that, by waiting until then, we miss out on a great opportunity: Christmas! Research shows that people are more open to an invite to church at this time of year than at any other. So we decided that we would begin our push NOW, in December, to coincide with a new and meaningful series as well as Celebration of Christmas.

Here's what that means for you and me.

  1. Please pray TODAY and TOMORROW for those who have received our mailers. Ask for the Holy Spirit to draw those who are seeking truth and meaning to North Heartland THIS SUNDAY and throughout this entire month.
  2. Please pray for me and our creative arts team. Ask for the Spirit to guide us and empower us as we lead and present each service.
  3. Please be on time and friendly. Consider moving down to the front of the auditorium to make room for newcomers who typically like to sit towards the back. (Remember your first time at NHCC and how it felt to be a newbie!)
  4. Invite family and friends to the series and also to one night of the Celebration of Christmas event, which will be great fun for all.

To help with that last item, here's a two minute video I made that explains the "why" behind the "This is Jesus" series. Along with the series card (link here), it's a good way to invite someone to come this Sunday or sometime during this series. BTW, both of these are also available to share from the NHCC Facebook page (if you do that kind of thing).

Finally, here's a link to reserve your seats for the Celebration of Christmas show "Christmas Through the Decades." This year's presentation is a comedic variety show featuring music, dancing, video and more from the 1940s, 50s, 60s and ... well, you get the idea. The script was written by our own Price Horn so you know it will be awesome! The show will also feature a meaningful ending that presents the story of the original Christmas celebration not in a heavy-handed way, but in a way that says "we'd love for you to join with us as we all learn more about this person, Jesus of Nazareth" ... which is what we'll be doing after the first of the year as we begin This is Jesus (Part 2): Dawn of a New Day.

By the way, if you or someone you know needs special accommodations for the show, please contact lynda@northheartland.org.  You can also purchase tickets at the table in the Commons on Sunday.

Ok, that's all for now. See you Sunday!
