It might be a bit of an exaggeration to say that there is a nip in the air but today’s cooler weather is a reminder that we’re coming to the end of summer and about to begin the new school year. It’s also the beginning of fall ministry season here at North Heartland. This Sunday we’ll kick it off with three items of note.

First, we’ll be changing our service times to 9:30 and 11:00. As I mentioned several weeks ago, our purpose is to (hopefully) obtain a better balance in attendance between the services. This is important not only for the room dynamic in the auditorium but also for our Adventureland children’s ministry. This change is permanent (at least until we see a need to change the times again).

Second, this Sunday, Adventureland resumes its full programming schedule following the summer break. I’m so excited about this because one of the defining aspects of our church is our outstanding children’s ministry. There’s just nothing like it in the Northland.

Finally, the reason we have put so much emphasis on Adventureland over the years (and, in recent days, on middle and high school ministry) is that part of our responsibility as a church is to train up the next generation for the cause of Christ. Jesus has called them to be the light in the days to come. That’s why this Sunday, we’ll be talking about that in a service we’re calling “Shine: The Next Generation.” This will be a great day. We’ll have a time of worship and a message, plus we’ll also be blessing parents and their newborn children, our Adventureland volunteers, our recent High School graduates and educators. (That sentence doesn’t do justice to the awesomeness we have planned for Sunday!)

So, enjoy the nice cool weekend and I will see you then!

P.S. If you have family and friends who are parents with newborns … or who are high school graduates … or educators of our children … feel free to invite them to this service. They will be blessed (literally) by what we do!
