07-30 @North Heartland: Three things to know
Good afternoon dear family and friends of North Heartland,
First of all, thank you to all who have expressed support and prayers for my mom and our family during this time. She's actually had a bit of a rebound this week and may need to move from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility; but, ultimately, the prognosis is still the same. Healing will not come until the day of the "massive makeover" (which I talked about in last Sunday's message).
As for NHCC ... I have three things to share with you:
First, our building has been filled non-stop today with teachers from all over the KC Metro area. Because of your generosity, we have been able to serve them with FREE supplies that will help as they teach their students. This is a great need as most teachers spend about $1,000 of their own money every year for this purpose. I am so thankful we are able to give them a taste of God's grace - with no strings attached - in this way ... because of the people of North Heartland!
Second, I am excited to announce that, after a series of extensive interviews, we have hired Clay Gorrell to become our full-time position of Director of Student Ministries on August 1st. Clay comes to us as a graduate of Kansas State University followed by a year of ministry training at the Kanakuk Institute in Branson where also met his wife, Caroline. We're thrilled to have them both on our team and in our family! I'll introduce them at services on Sunday August 6th. (More on that exciting day in next week's @North Heartland).
Finally, this Sunday we'll be concluding our series, Losing Our Religion, looking at one more criticism that is often leveled at followers of Jesus Christianity: Because It's Untrue, i.e. that what we believe is based on myths, fairytales and crazy stories from the Bible ... and should therefore be rejected. We'll look at why people might think that and (hopefully) give a well-reasoned and gracious response.
I hope you'll be present and also, if you've missed any of the preceding messages in this series, check them out in the media section of our app or website.
