10-21-18 @North Heartland: "It Starts in the Heart"
Good afternoon dear family and friends of North Heartland,
If you're someone who spends the majority of your day relating to people who are not Christians, you know how challenging it is to represent Jesus in a culture which is increasingly hostile to Christianity. That's why this Sunday we're beginning a five-week series called Outsiders (which is the New Testament term for those who stand "outside of the faith").
My goal in this series is to inspire and empower you not only to be confident but also gentle and respectful as you give the reason for the hope that lies within you (1 Peter 3:15) so that maybe, just maybe, some of those who are currently outsiders will one day become insiders - followers of and believers in Jesus.
Here's the plan:
Sunday It Starts in the Heart
If we're going to have any (positive) impact at all, we need to align our heart with God's on this matter.
10/28 Plan “A”
Most Christians have the impression that being holy means keeping their distance from outsiders. But God has another plan.
11/04 Speaking Up in a PC World
As our culture becomes more hostile to Christianity, followers of Jesus are hesitant to engage in a wide-ranging defense of their faith. But what if it all came down to just one thing?
11/11 God’s Story, My Story
These days no one buys anything without first checking the reviews. The same is true when it comes to faith. The best endorsement for Christianity is an authentic Christian who can explain how following Jesus makes their life better and makes them better at life.
11/18 Standing by the Door
Most churches naturally drift to serving the needs of insiders. The gravitational pull is toward going deeper which is why we must intentionally choose to stand by the door for those who are still outside of it.
I have high hopes for what this series will do for those who follow Jesus, so I hope you'll be present or watching online!
Switching gears just a bit ....
Last Sunday, Shannon shared with us about the eight Impact Partners we collectively support as a church. If you missed the service, click here to see all the great stuff we've been part of in the past year through these organizations who do good in ways we can not.
As Shannon said in her message, last year we were able to raise $73,000 for our Impact Partners through your donations and our income generating events (like Cool to be Blue small mall and concessions, Celebration of Christmas ticket sales, etc).
To help get the generosity ball rolling again, we asked everyone on Sunday to consider making a one-time gift of $29.95 for each adult in their family.
We know not everyone can do $29.95 and some can do much more. We simply ask that you pray and ask God how much He would have you contribute to this project. Our hope is to generate about $10,000 through this one-time offering request. Last Sunday, we received about $6.900.
To donate, click here and select Impact Partner fund OR bring cash or a check this Sunday.
See you then!
