07-08-18 @North Heartland: "Necessary Endings" (and movie series details!)
Good morning family and friends of North Heartland,
Two things to share with you ... and I'm really excited about both of them!
First of all, if you're a Christian, I'm sure you know that Jesus calls us to "go the extra mile" with others - just as He has done (and does) for us. We are to be patient and long-suffering with them - just as God is with us. And you also know (from last Sunday's message, which is here) that we are called to be productive in this world through our work, whether that's through a formal job or other ways we invest our time, talent and energy.
However ... there is also point and a time when it is necessary to stop being patient and long-suffering. And there is a time to draw the line on our "production." But how do you know when that time is?
That's what we'll be talking about in this Sunday's message Necessary Endings.
Second, one week from this Sunday, we'll be kicking off a five-week movie series: When Evil Comes to Call.
That title sounds a little scary but the truth is that evil is everywhere in our world. It takes many different forms and there is no escaping it. The question is: when evil comes to call on us, we will be a victim or victor?
What amazed me as I put this series together is how each movie we'll be looking at clearly illustrates one specific type of evil (cruelty, tragedy, injustice, failure, etc) as well as various ways of responding. Even more amazing is how clearly "the way" of Jesus shows up in each!
Here's the schedule:
Jul 15 A Quiet Place
Jul 22 Dr. Strange
Jul 29 Murder on the Orient Express
Aug 05 Black Panther
Aug 12 Passengers
This Sunday we'll be providing everyone with invitation cards and a link to the incredible video promo (which we'll show at the end of the service).
I'm excited about doing this series because even though it's a lot of work, it's also a lot of fun to put together. The movies are great, the music will be great, plus - most importantly - over the years quite a few people have come to NHCC for the first time during a movie series and have become followers of and believers in Jesus.
With that in mind, would you please take a minute right now to think about who you might invite to come with you? Then say a prayer that God will open the door for you to do just that and that they will say "yes."
Have a great weekend and I'll see you Sunday!
