01-06-19 @North Heartland: "Breathing Room" series begins!

Happy New Year dear family and friends of North Heartland!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmastime and holiday season. I certainly did from both a personal and pastoral perspective. I'll spare you the personal details (basically lots of food, fun, family and friends) but from a ministry angle, I think Christmas season 2018 was one of the best I can remember.

Originally, we weren't planning to do a Christmas at the Movies series but when we decided to cancel Celebration of Christmas, it seemed like a good alternative, especially considering that "Celebration" is a key element in our outreach strategy.

As it turned out, the movie series was a GREAT alternative - with results that far exceeded our original plan. Our average December attendance in 2018 was almost 100 more than in 2017. Christmas Eve services were also up by over 100 compared to last year. More importantly, many North Heartlanders invited "outsiders" to come ... and they did!

In fact, the results were so great that I've decided that I'm going to do it again next year.  There are lots more excellent Christmas movies that provide outstanding Gospel analogies and metaphors. So, mark it down - Christmas at the Movies II, next December!

By the way, if you missed any of the messages in the movie series, they will remain posted for just a couple of weeks after today. Click on the titles below to see the message.

    12-02 Christmas Vacation
    12-09 A Christmas Carol
    12-16 Elf
    12-23 The Santa Clause

Ok, let's turn our attention to 2019 and what's happening THIS Sunday with the launch of a brand new series called Breathing Room. I decided to do this series because so many of us attempt to get the most out of life - which is a good thing, but are also losing control of our life - which is not.

Over the next four weeks, we'll discover how to create room in our schedules, our finances, and even our bodies. In this Sunday's message, Breathless, we'll look at some of the consequences of living a life without margin and how to take the first steps of regaining control. I hope you'll be with us or watching online!

Finally, if you are new to North Heartland or have never attended the Introduction to North Heartland class, I invite you to do so this Sunday. It runs from 11a-3pm. Lunch is provided as well as free childcare (available for children birth-5th grade).  Go here to sign up - especially if you need childcare.

Ok, that's all for now. Have a great weekend!
