04-07-19 @North Heartland: "This Is Us ... It's Worse Than You Thought."

Good morning dear family and friends of NHCC,

I have a few things to let you know about today but first I want to give a big pat on the back to Associate Pastor Ladell Thomason for the great job he did on last Sunday's message (which, in case you missed it, is here). Jetta and I had our three daughters plus assorted husbands, boyfriends, and grandkids in our home over the weekend so it was nice to be able just to come to church for a day.

This Sunday I'll be back on the platform as we continue our series This Is Us: Why We Are the Way We Are. If you've been present over the past few weeks, you know that we've been talking about why we all struggle to measure up to who we are meant to be. This week we'll look at the greatest problem we have in that and, I hate to say it, but it's worse than you thought. Actually, that's the title of the message, too.

Looking ahead a bit ... on Wednesday evening April 17th join us in setting aside an hour or so for A Night of Worship. That's right in the middle of "Holy Week" - the week Christians all over the world remember the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf - so our time together will feature not only a time of extended praise and worship (including several new worship songs) but also scripture reading and communion. The service will begin at 7pm and end by 8.

Finally, looking even further ahead, after Easter Sunday (April 21st) we're going to begin a five-week series called Put A Ring On It: why marriage matters - and how to build a good one. I'm sure you're aware that fewer people are "walking the aisle" these days, but research shows that the great majority of us still do marry or hope to be married someday. In this series, we’ll discover ancient and proven principles that lead to success in that endeavor.

I'll give you more details in upcoming weeks but this will be a great time to invite someone who doesn't know the Lord and/or isn't involved in a church. Actually, the best plan would be to invite them to Easter Sunday service then to the series that follows!

Ok, that's all for now. See you Sunday!

Rick
