07-28-19 @North Heartland: "Bad God?" (plus some cool events and a new staff person!)

Hey everyone!

It's hard to believe we're almost to the end of July, especially after such a great week of weather. Hopefully, you've been able to enjoy it as much as I have. I was outside quite a bit working on several yard projects and the lack of heat and humidity was awesome!

Several items of note in this week's missive ...

This Sunday we're continuing in our series First Love and, as I mentioned in last week's message, we're not talking about romantic love. Instead, we're talking about the idea that, for followers of Jesus, He is the one we are to love first and most. If you missed the message from last Sunday, you can check it out here.

That said, whenever we talk about loving God, someone will almost always ask "but what about all the mean and dastardly stuff God is recorded as doing in the Old Testament? Seems odd to love anyone like that - even God!" So that's what I'm going to talk about in the message "Bad God?" I know it's summer and all, but if you know someone who isn't a believer, this is an excellent time to invite them.

Our annual Teacher Supply Giveaway - a massive and massively helpful project that serves up to 1,000 teachers in our city - is set to roll NEXT THURSDAY. Because it is such a huge project, we really need help with setup THIS SUNDAY from noon to 2 pm as well as with running the event itself. Click here to sign up!

Also, today is the last day to get the $25-per-golfer discount for the Annual NHCC Swing Into Action Charity Benefit Golf Tourney which happens Friday August 9th at Tiffany Greens. Click here to sign up.

Finally, we're really excited to welcome a new full-time staff member. Tim Bearden will begin working with us August 5th as our IT and Communications Director. Tim has extensive experience in the world of computers and technology as well as marketing. He's been a member of NHCC for several years and serves as a volunteer in Adventureland  as well as on our drama team. Tim also does stand-up comedy on the side - a skill which I'm sure will come in handy when dealing with our many tech crises. 🙂

Part of Tim's responsibility will be to build volunteer teams to serve in his appointed areas so, if you're a techno-geek and have skills in communications/video/social media he would like to meet you. And it just so happens that we'll be having a meet and greet following services on August 4th. You should definitely plan to stop by and say hello!

Ok, that's all for now - see you Sunday!
