08-25-19 @North Heartland: Next Gen Sunday, Q&A Forum, upcoming messages
Good morning family and friends of NHCC,
A few items of note to pass along to you today including "Next Gen" Sunday events, Q&A Forum and upcoming messages ...
"Next Gen" Sunday
In addition to our regular worship time, our services this week will feature the annual Parent/Child Blessing plus a message delivered by our Next Gen leadership team of Julie Smoldt (Assistant Pastor of Family Ministries), Clay Gorrel (Assistant pastor of Student Ministry), Erin Tolin (Director of Children's Ministry) and Phil Wilt (lead Adventureland volunteer and all-round good guy). In addition, we'll be hearing from several volunteers via video. It's going to be an outstanding service and I'm looking forward to it.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking: "I'm sure it'll be great, but I don't have kids in any of those programs. So maybe this is a good week for me to stay home and sleep in."
Let me encourage you - if you're a Christian - not to do that for several reasons.
"Church" is primarily about Jesus not us. Christians don't choose to show up or not based on this week's message topic. We come to worship because God deserves it. (Psalm 96:9)
As I mentioned in a message several weeks ago, "church" is also about encouraging other believers, which is something we do by simply showing up. (Hebrews 10:25)
"Church" is about developing the next generation (Deuteronomy 6:6-7) therefore, our Family Ministry leaders and our young people deserve our support and encouragement.
Also, following the 11:00 service, we'll be having an open house with a light lunch in both student and children's ministry areas. Everyone is welcome to stop by and take a brief tour plus meet the staff and volunteers who devote so much time, love and energy to our young people.
If North Heartland is your church, you've probably sensed a lot of changes since the first of the year. Staff have come and gone, we've experienced a rather odd season financially and it just seems like there is a lot going on.
For this reason - and because Christians "make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:3), our pastors and Advisory Council felt that it would be wise to have an open forum where NHCCers can ask questions and/or express concerns.
So, if North Heartland is your church, you're welcome to attend one or both of our Q&A Forums next Tuesday (8/27) and Thursday (8/29) evenings. The meetings will be held in the Cafe and free childcare will be provided up though kindergarten.
I'll be there along with several of our pastoral staff and members of our Advisory Council. The meetings will begin at 7pm and end at 8:15pm sharp, though we'll hang around for any additional questions that aren't answered in that time frame.
Next Sunday is Labor Day weekend ... and we're in between message series ... so I'm going to give a one-shot message called Dumb Things Smart Christians Do. I've been keeping a list of the dumb things I do and the dumb things you guys do, so it should be a really, really long message. Plan to stay through lunch.
Just kidding. More details next week.
As to what follows, I'm planning to do a series in September called Stuck in the Middle. At some point, all of us are faced with unexpected, undesired and unpleasant changes. Once the initial shock wears off, the challenge is to avoid getting stuck in the middle between "what was" and "what will be" ... which is what we'll be looking at in the series. Again, more details next week.
See you Sunday!
